Our Research
Solesio Lab studies the effects of mitochondrial inorganic polyphosphate (polyP) on different aspects of the physiology of the organelle, including but not limited to bioenergetics and oxidative status, dynamics, mitophagy, and proteostasis. The regulation of these processes has a major effect of mammalian metabolism. Moreover, their dysregulation is present in neurons in various neurodegenerative disorders, such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and Huntington’s Diseases, as well as in stroke and aging.
Our Methods
To answer our research questions, we use cellular pharmacologically-induced models of neurodegeneration and aging; and an integrated approach of cell biology, microscopy, biochemistry, protein biology, and metabolomics and proteomics assays.
